The East Micronesia Cable Project (EMCP)
Revolutionising Connectivity in Nauru
The East Micronesia Cable Project (EMCP) is a state-of-the-art, regional submarine fibre-optic cable system that connects Nauru to Tarawa, Kosrae, and Pohnpei, and extends onward to Guam. With the support of development partners, including Australia, Japan, and the USA, this project will bring reliable, high-capacity broadband to Nauru, benefitting over 100,000 people across the region.
NFCC was established to manage the cable’s implementation in Nauru. Once completed, the cable will provide faster, more affordable internet services to local operators and residents, transforming our nation’s digital landscape.
The EMCP is funded through a grant of up to AUD135 million. This project will facilitate the delivery of better public services, improved education, and new business opportunities, enabling Nauru to become a more connected and competitive nation.
Our Goals for the Future
NFCC’s primary objective is to ensure that Nauru’s internet infrastructure is ready to meet growing demand. By managing the cable landing station and working closely with local Retail Service Providers (RSPs), we will ensure that all Nauruans have access to the internet services they need. Our mission extends to supporting the local market, driving competitive pricing, and creating new opportunities for innovation in e-commerce, education, and government services.
